Keratoconus
Keratoconus is a vision disorder that occurs when the normally
round cornea or front surface of the eye becomes irregularly cone shaped. This abnormal shape prevents the light entering the eye from being focused correctly on the retina and causes distortion of vision and
increased sensitivity to glare and light.
Keratoconus symptoms usually appear between 13 - 20 years of age and may progress for another 10-20 years. Each eye may be affected differently.
As keratoconus progresses, the cornea bulges further forward and vision becomes more distorted. Most keratoconic patients require contact lenses to see normally.
Visique Rose Optometrists are at the forefront of keratoconus treatment options. We are true world renowned experts in treating this disease and are the birthplace of the Rose-k2 lens design which is now the most prescribed rigid keratoconus lens design in the world today, now being fitted in over 75 countries.
Paul Rose ( the inventor of the Rose-k lens fitting system) lectures extensively around the world on keratoconus and the Rose K lens design and has a true passion for this eye condition. Today he continues to research and develop new and exciting treatment options for people with this dehabilitating visual condition.
