Enable New Zealand Children's Spectacle Subsidy

share article

As an Optical Consultant, I understand that providing the best vision care for your child is important, and I am here to help you access any funding support available.

The Enable New Zealand Children's Spectacle Subsidy helps eligible families with the cost of eye examinations and spectacles for children aged 15 years and under who have a Community Services Card or High Use Health Card. The subsidy can generally be accessed once every 12 months, with eligibility ending at age 16.

The standard subsidy of up to $287.50 may contribute towards your child's eye examination and, if specific clinical criteria are met, towards lenses, frames, or eye patches. Eligibility depends on your child's age and prescription requirements, including conditions such as short-sightedness, long-sightedness, astigmatism, or anisometropia.

For children with more complex visual needs, including rapidly progressing myopia, amblyopia, or strabismus, additional funding may be available if the Optometrist determines the criteria are met.

To apply, smply bring your current Community Services Card or High Use HealthCard to your appointment. Our Optometrist will complete the online application on your behalf. If approved, the subsidy is paid directly to us. Should the total cost exceed the funding provided, any remaining balance will be payable by the family.

If you are unsure whether your child qualifies, please speak with me. I would be happy to guide you through the process and help ensure your child receives the vision care they need.
