Why Your Glasses Might Be Giving You Headaches (And What SHAW Lenses Do About It)
As a dispensing optician, one of the most common complaints I hear isn't about blurry vision, it's about headaches, eye strain, or that "off" feeling some people get with new glasses. Often the culprit isn't the prescription itself, but something called aniseikonia: a mismatch in how largeeach eye perceives its image.
This tends to show up when there's a meaningful difference between your two prescriptions. Each eye sends its own image to the brain, and if one image comes out larger than the other, the brain must work overtime to merge them into a single picture, which is exhausting, especially over a full day of reading or screen work.
This is where SHAW lenses come in. Unlike standard lenses that correct each eye independently, SHAW lenses use eye-movement measurements and computer modelling to design lenses around how your two eyes work together, not just your prescription numbers.
They're not for everyone; most people do fine with conventional lenses. But if you've struggled with discomfort that regular glasses never seemed tofix, it's worth asking your optician whether binocular vision, not justsharpness, might be the missing piece.
