At Rose Optometry, we are passionate about safeguarding the eye health of our community, especially when it comes to childhood myopia. We are thrilled to share the exciting news that the New Zealand Association of Optometrists (NZAO) has joined the Global Myopia Awareness Coalition (GMAC), a leading international initiative dedicated to raising awareness of childhood myopia and promoting early intervention.

Founded in 2019, GMAC brings together top ophthalmic companies and eye health organizations from around the world with a shared goal: to educate the public, collaborate with governments and healthcare associations, and empower parents and caregivers to take proactive steps in managing myopia in children.

“By joining forces with New Zealand’s optometric community, we can amplify our impact with greater awareness, intervention, and better outcomes for children at both local and global levels,” said Olga Prenat, chair of GMAC.

From the perspective of Rose Optometry, this partnership is especially significant. Our owner, Jagrut Lallu, has accepted the nomination to serve as the interim NZAO representative on GMAC, a role that allows us to actively contribute to international discussions and initiatives surrounding childhood myopia. Jagrut shares the coalition’s vision of improving eye health outcomes and ensuring that myopia is recognized as a treatable condition, not just a lifestyle inconvenience.

This collaboration marks an important step in uniting New Zealand’s optometric community with global stakeholders, reinforcing the shared commitment to proactive eye care, public education, and innovative myopia management strategies.
