Emilie Lawson

Emilie Lawson is a therapeutically qualified optometrist at Rose Optometry in Hamilton, and one of the practice's most broadly qualified clinicians. She graduated from the University of Auckland with a Bachelor of Optometry and Vision Science (First Class Honours) in 2015, after completing a Bachelor of Biomedical Science, majoring in Functional Human Biology, at the University of Otago in 2011.

Emilie sees patients of every age and has a particular interest in children's vision and myopia management. She examines children from six weeks of age, manages short-sightedness that is getting worse, and works with families on the treatment plan that fits their child — spectacle lenses, soft contact lenses, overnight lenses or drops — tracking the length of the eye at every visit rather than relying on the glasses prescription alone.

Her scope of practice is wider than most optometrists'. Emilie is an Accredited Glaucoma Prescriber, which means she can diagnose glaucoma and prescribe and manage glaucoma medication independently, within accepted best-practice standards. She holds the Australian College of Optometry Certificate in Advanced Contact Lenses and fits specialty lenses for keratoconus, and she manages dry eye in the practice's Dry Eye Clinic.

Emilie prides herself on friendly, thorough eye care, and on explaining what she finds in plain language so that patients — and parents — leave knowing exactly where things stand.
