Choosing the right Eye Drops

share article

When you go to buy eye drops, the number of options can feel overwhelming. So how do  you know which ones are right for you?

There are many different causes of dry, gritty and tired eyes. It can be influenced by things  like your general health, diet, eyelid hygiene, environment, and even your vision needs.  Because of this, not all eye drops work in the same way.

Here are three of the many different eye drops we offer at Rose Optometry, each designed  to target different needs:

Lacrifresh

An eye drop containing 0.3% Sodium Hyaluronate. Sodium Hyaluronate is a  moisture-binding ingredient that does exactly that, it binds to the water in  your tears to help create a stable layer of moisture on your eyes. A

recommended drop for contact lens wearers.

Novatears

An oil-based eye drop that helps stabilise the tear film’s oil layer, which can  be affected by Meibomian Gland Dysfunction (when glands in our eyelids  don’t produce enough quality oil). Drops like Novatears can help to restore  this layer, but the long-term goal is to treat the gland dysfunction itself with  personalised treatments, to reduce reliance on drops.

Optimel with Manuka

While also providing lubrication, Optimel is one of the few eye drops with  natural antibacterial properties. Dry eye symptoms are often linked to excess bacteria around the eyelids, so Optimel can help to reduce this bacterial load and the resulting inflammation, supporting a healthier ocular surface.
